What led you to consider a career in consulting?
I started my career as a Chartered Accountant which gave me great commercial foundations, but I found myself drawn to analysing my clients’ broader business problems. This fueled my move into forensic/fraud accounting, finance advisory and then later into management consulting.
Can you share a moment at Escient that really made you feel proud to be part of this team?
When Escient took on the challenge of becoming a B Corp certified business, I was really proud to see how supportive our leadership, the Board and core functions were to invest on the journey. I took a lead role in certification process which provided a great opportunity to understand the business from every angle and contribute in a unique and meaningful way.
How has working at Escient influenced your approach to problem-solving or innovation in your work?
Escient consultants truly are a diverse bunch of humans from all walks of life, and working in this environment has really opened my mind to what’s possible, and how much further you can get with different perspectives in the room.
What’s a challenge you’ve tackled at Escient that has taught you something valuable about your team or yourself?
I’ve learnt how important it is to be able to ask for help as soon as you have the inkling to do so, not waiting until it’s too late. As consultants, we are often put into complex situations with many moving parts to contend with. At Escient, we work in an honest and safe environment, where consultants lean on each other to get the support needed to work through challenges, and this is critical in us ultimately delivering valuable outcomes.
What’s a piece of wisdom or a lesson you’ve learned at Escient that you believe every new team member should know?
Don’t be scared to put yourself out there, we are all waiting to say hello! Every new starter is encouraged to reach out to staff in their region and set up individual 15-minute introductions. Even though this may sound daunting, it really is a great way to break the ice and get to know your colleagues before you jump on your first engagement.
