Geraldine Ambrose was a valued Escient consultant and IT professional whose legacy continues to inspire. To commemorate Geraldineā€™s achievements and keep her memory alive, Escient is proud to co-sponsor an annual academic achievement award at Swinburne University.

The Geraldine Ambrose Memorial Prize is awarded to the highest performing first-year student in the Bachelor of Business Information Technology (Professional) program, the course Geraldine herself commenced in its very first intake. This award honours Geraldineā€™s accomplishments as an inaugural graduate from this course, and encourages young talent in the field of IT.

Geraldine joined Escient as the first Victorian consultant in January 2017. Escient Consultant and former Swinburne classmate, Julie Jobson says, ā€œGeraldine was a complete pocket-rocket of a consultant ā€“ she was a formidable professional, who worked across various sectors, making a significant impact on each of her clients.ā€

Her impactful work at the Department of Sustainability and Environment in taking on the inaugural Chief Information Officer role for 12 months, and her contributions to BHP, where she worked across various transformation roles, including the delivery of an organisational-wide leadership development program, and leading the project office for the Next Generation Mining Program, are just some of her many achievements.

Geraldine pushed the boundaries from a young age. At 17, she became the youngest person in the Geelong Air Force Cadets to achieve a full pilot’s license, flying solo even before she could drive a car. Her legacy as a high achiever and a role model for women in IT continues to inspire many.

In 2018, Geraldine lost her battle against an aggressive form of cancer.

This year, we are pleased to congratulate Artur Goncalves, the recipient of the Geraldine Ambrose Memorial Prize 2024. In addition to his academic achievements, Arturā€™s interests also extend to leadership and social enterprise. He is a member of Swinburneā€™s Beta Alpha Psi international honour society, working to shape the next generation of business leaders; Swinburneā€™s Leadership Club, Swinlead, and the Entrepreneurship Club. Artur is also a Unite 2030 Youth Delegate and travelled to rural India as a Student Project Lead for the Swinburne ICT for Social Impact India tour to help local children learn much-needed digital literacy skills, exemplifying our Escient values of selflessness, courage, creativity, and empathy.

Congratulations, Artur. We are honoured to celebrate your achievements and see Geraldineā€™s legacy live on through your contributions.
