Pallavi Verma
Pallavi Verma, a consultant in our Sydney office, tells us how she’s building a career she loves at Escient.
Tell us about your background?
I came to Australia as an international student, to study a Master of ICT at Western Sydney University. That’s where I discovered that I really enjoy public speaking and interacting with people. So, I knew I wanted a job that combines people and tech.
While studying towards my master’s, I worked at the university in IT support as a Business Analyst. I worked alongside external consultants which sparked my interest in a consulting career.
What do you like about consulting?
I enjoy the variety, especially working across a range of clients. Every day is something new and I learn a lot through the various engagements. I’ve worked across project governance and delivery, but I think I enjoy the delivery side more. It’s great to see a project come to life!
Why did you choose Escient?
I attended a Women in Projects, Australia (PMI) event where I met Jen Dolden, a consultant at Escient. I thought she was impressive. When I noticed Escient was advertising, I reached out to her and said I’d like to apply for the role.
Seeing women in leadership roles is important to me and there is a good gender balance across Escient.
I also like that Escient puts people first. There’s a focus on soft skills as well as technical competence. For example, Alan, the Managing Director in Sydney, will call just to check-in and see how I’m going. And if you need help, you can easily reach out to colleagues. Little things like that make the difference.
